THE SPIRIT

Next week LIONSGATE will be debuting the trailer for the new film from Frank Miller (the man behind 300 and SIN CITY), THE SPIRIT, which is based on the classic comic book created by Will Eisner. THE SPIRIT has an all star cast that includes Gabrielle Macht, Samuel Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes. The trailer is short and runs only 1:14. This is a movie that we feel is launching a new franchise that will be viable for many years to come. Trailer placement with some of this summers big films will be key to the success of THE SPIRIT for all of us. The trailer was premiered at Comic Con in New York last week and quickly became one of the most talked about films amongst the fans.

The trailer for THE SPIRIT will be enclosed next week with IRON MAN.

Also, as you may have heard, LIONSGATE just added the newest movie from the team that brought you DATE MOVIE, EPIC MOVIE and MEET THE SPARTANS, to our release schedule. Currently untitled, the next “Spoof” movie will open on August 29. More information to follow.

Finally, we wanted to thank everyone for helping to make the first 4 months of 2008 so successful. This past weekend the teaming of Jackie Chan and Jet Li proved a real powerhouse as Lionsgate roared to the top spot on the box office chart for the first time in 2008. As you have probably read, FORBIDDEN KONGDOM marks the 8th Lionsgate wide release in a row to open up to either 1 or 2 in the weekend box office charts dating back to September and 3:10 TO YUMA. Over the course of the streak the average opening weekend gross has been $19.09 million. So far for 2008 we are on track to surpass or record box off gross of last year.
